Technical water supply systems intaking water via closed cycle

A technical water supply system intaking water via closed cycle realizes pressurization by means of a water pump. Specifically, it firstly intakes water from the water intake, and then pumps the water to the sedimentation tank with the water supply pump for sediment. Finally, it distributes the cooling water to the units.

This system is composed of 5 parts: tail water cooler, circulating pool and pump house, circulating water pump and electric control cabinet, water main, and return main. It works like this: It fills the circulating pool when the water is clear, and pumps the clear water in the circulating pool into the cooler with the circulating water pump when the water is muddy. The cooler water is then sent to the water main and distributed to the cooling systems of the units. The cooled water returned from the units, however, flows into the return main and returns to the circulating pool. Thus, a closed cycle is formed.

Advantages: This system does not intake water from a river, so it can ensure that the water entering the units is clear, and the damage to the water pumps and units caused by impurities in the water can be avoided.

Disadvantages: This system requires a high cost and raises high space requirements for the plant of the hydropower station which is already compact. Specially, the sedimentation tank, pump house, cooler should be built according to the water consumption of the units, many pipeline devices should be increased, and a remote control system should be arranged.

As the cooling water comes from the water pump, constant efficiency decline of the water pump and the great consumption of auxiliary power cannot be avoided. In addition, a low efficiency of the cooler is also a common problem.
